Cleaning

• First, rugs are separated based on being hand made or machine made. Hand made area rugs generally are more sensitive.
• Then we remove as much dust as possible from the rug.
• Rugs are then tested for color fastness. If the colors bleed, we have to use special methods like dry cleaning or extraction to leave the least amount of water as possible on the rug.
• We check to see if there are areas on the area rug more soiled or if stains on the rug. If yes, we pre-treat the area. Please understand that some stains like some pet stains may not be removed as they have permanently changed the colors of the wool.
• If the rug smells and has pet odor, we neutralize and eliminate the odor.

Rugs are then washed with different methods depending on the type, age, color fastness, thickness. In brief, some methods we use include mostly complete soaking and submersion in water, which is the best way to clean, dry cleaning, jet spray and extraction. Fringes are treated separately to prevent damage.

Drying

All of our rugs are laid out flat to dry. Hanging textiles up when wet can lead to too much strain on the foundation of the rugs. Air movers are used to help facilitate drying, without the use of high heat (so there is no worry of shrinkage). Upon a first wash, it is typical for a rug to shrink slightly (less than an inch) - just as cotton and wool clothing does in even a cold water hand wash. And as with throwing wool or cotton in a high heat dryer, you know this shrinks natural fibers…this is why we dry our rugs the way we do.

Dri-Eaz HVE Water/Pad Extractor

We now use a state of the art Dri-Eaz Rover HVE (High Volume Extractor). This new rover allows us to extract your wet carpet and pad and dry the carpet in place without having to “pull” and “float” the carpet as we had to in years past. 90% of the time we can SAVE your carpet and pad in the event of flooding. All too often, restorers want to rack up your bill, by unnecessarily pulling up the carpet and padding. This not only wastes unnecessary dollars, it can also turn a normally 2-4 day drying job, into a week to ten day construction project requiring your home to be more torn apart than it has to be.

Flood Restoration Dehumidifiers

We carry 2 sizes of flood restoration dehumidifiers: Large (Shown) and Small (just smaller version of what is shown). These are used to draw moisture out of the air, which will lessen the humidity and aide in drying the areas needed much faster then when not used. The moisture is pulled into the dehumidifier and then dispensed through a hose to drain. This also will prevent other porous surfaces from absorbing the moisture from the air and prevent damage to home items that may draw in that moisture

DefendAir HEPA 500

An air scrubber or Industrial HEPA Filtration System helps create a cleaner, safer indoor environment for occupants both during flood restoration and after it is done during the clean up stages. Necessary for when water damage has gone from bad to worse and the presence of microbial growth (mold/mildew) spores are present. The DefendAir HEPA 500 uses HEPA filter media with an efficiency rating of 99.97% against 0.3-micron oily aerosol particles, and 250-500 CFM, the typical airflow level demanded on restoration jobs.

Vortex/Turbo/Jet CXV Dryers

These are the most important pieces of flood restoration equipment we posses. This allows for the maximum amount of air to be circulated to aide in the drying process. These are placed on the carpet, directed towards walls or other areas that are wet to quickly dry your Home and Personal Possessions. Without the proper air circulation, water damage restoration can be nearly impossible. During flood restoration drying will take time. With heat and moisture mixed together it can create Microbial Growth (Mold/Mildew) and a much more hazardous situation to your health if prolonged. The more air the better. We are also now incorporating the use of the new Dri-Eaz Jet CXV TurboDryers.

Performance Carpet Care utilizes the Un-Duz-It® method

Un-Duz-It® has been proven to be totally effective in correcting pet odor problems such as urine, feces, vomit and in the removal of organic-related staining. Un-Duz-It® utilizes bio enzymatic action (the complex organic substances formed in the living cells of plants and animals), as catalysts for the decomposition of organic-related odors and related staining. It eliminates the source of organic odors naturally. It contains performance enhancing ingredients which resist resoiling. For all water safe surfaces such as carpets, rugs, drapes, upholstery, mattresses, wood, plastic, clothing, vinyl, trash containers, concrete, tile, etc.

Once the source and severity of the odor are determined, the carpet will then be rinsed and extracted with a hot water rinse to remove the bulk of the urine crystals.

In worst cases, the carpet is pulled back in the suspected areas to reveal the extent of the damage.*

If necessary, the pad will be removed and replaced.*

An odor blocking shellac may be applied to the sub floor if determined necessary.*

Un-Duz-It® will then be applied heavily to the tack strip, the sub floor, the baseboards and the carpet backing. It is necessary to apply this product heavily enough to dampen all areas affected by the urine.

If you’ve waited until your carpets look dirty, then you have waited too long. The longer they remain dirty, the sooner they’ll wear out. Industry testing shows that you can have up to one full pound of dirt in a square foot of carpet before it begins to look dirty.

This dirt is abrasive and wears down the fibers and substantially shortens the life. Many warranties require at least an annual cleaning by a professional to be honored (check your own warranty to see your requirements, and if they specify the type of cleaning method to keep your warranty in effect).

Another necessity of regular cleaning is to remove the contaminants besides the “dirt” that gets trapped in your carpet’s fibers. The longer you wait to clean, the longer you have to breathe all the pollen, fungus, pet odors, dust mites, and chemicals that hide in your carpet.

Our Cleaning Methods

We use state of the art, White Magic™ truck mounted steam cleaning. This is also referred to as an injection/extraction method. It is the preferred cleaning method of all the major carpet mills.

Our van-powered units truly offer the best in performance, reliability, and simplicity. They use a Vulcan dual heat exchanger method to heat the water to a consistent 240 degrees. We then inject the steam at 600 psi (pounds per square inch) and then extract it with 14″hg of lift.

We use Prochem carpet extraction detergent powder with a solvent boost to quickly cut through tough, dry or greasy soils and leave the carpet clean:

• Powerful enough for commercial buildings and restaurant carpets, yet safe for residential carpet.
• Its Minimum Residue, Maximum Cleaning formulation removes soil that others leave behind.
• Meets specifications for use on stain-resistant carpets

Spills happen.

Stains don’t have to. Follow these general guidelines to prevent carpet blemishes whenever you have a mishap .

1. Scoop up as much of the spill as possible, with a towel or a spoon.
2. Blot the spot, don’t rub or scrub. Gently press clean cloths into the stained area to remove moisture. Scrubbing can damage the fiber and set the stain into the carpet.
3. Apply warm, not hot, water to the stained area and blot until the stain stops transferring to the cloth.
4. If you can still see the stain, make a Detergent Solution by adding 1/4 teaspoon dishwashing liquid to one cup warm water. Don’t use too much soap, because it’s difficult to rinse out of the carpet.
5. Apply the detergent solution, let sit five minutes, then rinse with clear warm water. Repeat until all the detergent is removed.
6. Place layers of white paper towels on the spill to absorb the liquid. Weight down the towels with a non-staining glass or ceramic object. You can let them sit overnight.
7. When the carpet is dry, vacuum to restore the texture.
8. If you can see the stain after all this, repeat steps 3 through 7. It means the stain penetrated deep into the pile and has wicked up to the surface.

• Prevent Electrocution! Shut off power to all flooded areas
• Stop the Water!
• Wipe furniture dry and block it up to allow the base to dry
• Lift draperies off the carpet, loop through a coat hanger, and place the hanger on the drapery rod
• Remove wet area rugs or other loose floor coverings
• Open furniture drawers, closet doors, and luggage to enhance drying
• Move photos, paintings, and art objects to a safe, dry location
• Remove wet fabrics and dry them as soon as possible
• Remove damp books from shelves and spread them out to dry
• Do not use ordinary household vacuum to remove water
• Do not use electrical appliances while on wet carpet or wet floors
• Do not go into rooms with standing water if the electricity is still on
• Do not lift tacked down carpet without professional help. Lifting the carpet incorrectly could damage the backing
• Leave lights on when possible. Mold needs two things to grow; Wet and dark
